Since early the 20th century, this property was inhabited by the Ruiz Javalois family. In 1923 Don Arturo Ruiz Javalois decided that due to the size and the strategic location of his house located a half block from the railroad station, the most important mean of transport at that time to reach that area and also an important point for business by its closeness to Port of Champerico, to transform it into a home to bring hospitality to those visiting Retalhuleu and its surrounding for business or pleasure.
Hotel Astor officially opened its doors in July 1923 and has since been an excellent choice of accommodation for all its visitors. Being its main attraction its construction that still maintains the original structure bringing its clients a unique and traditional atmosphere.
